Summary: Part of the infamous Feminette Collection never before available for streaming, KAKA FERSKUR (FRESH ROLLS) THE NEW ADVENTURES OF PIPPI LONGSTOCKING is a 30-minute underground short film written and directed by indie filmmaker Todd Hughes in 1988, restored in 2023.
The film is a highly stylized, "Bergmanesque" parody that satirizes the traditional coming-of-age story through the lens of Astrid Lindgren's classic children's character. Instead of a whimsical children's tale, the story presents Pippi Longstocking and her friends either as angsty young adults or as deeply disillusioned grown-ups who flatly refuse to mature.
The plot strips away the innocence of the original books, reframing Pippi's fiercely independent lifestyle as a bizarre, existential crisis.
